I am using a 1010 Blackbox as sample player.
The Arp works nicely when using Midi Out DIN > TRS Midi In. I can assign channels to the pads and each arp plays them.
However when I go USB Midi > USB Midi no notes are played. Some midi is getting through, as it "starts" the Blackbox playing.
I can however use the Arp USB Midi on a computer with a software sampler.
Any clues as to where the problem might be? The Blackbox can power the Arp via Midi Device port so that would be really helpful to cut down on cables.
Thanks !
Thanks. Very much appreciate the help. Midi Control is off.
I dug out my NDLR (sorry!) and that is working as expected in the same setup, but I do wonder if there is something going on with clock. The BB is neither sending not receiving clock. If I use the NDLR and disable the internal clock the nothing happens. But not matter what I try with the ARP i cannot get a single note to play.
Thanks !
"You are connecting to ARP via the Device port on the back of the BlackBox?" Yes. BB Device > ARP USB Midi. "You'll need a power supply that can provide 2Amps at 5V." I am using a dedicated mains plug that can supply 3A. " do you have the Global MIDI Channel set to the same channel you are trying to capture from ARP? No, I turned that off and am assigning specific Midi Channels to each Pad. But what does seem to be happening if I let all the midi channels through like that is that it is "controlling" the Blackbox as if I was using an external pad controller that I had mapped. So it puts it in "Song Mode" and selects various Pads. All very weird. Works fine via DIN > Midi In.
To clarify, you are connecting to ARP via the Device port on the back of the BlackBox? There should be no difference in the MIDI output between USB and DIN. One thing to check is the MIDI Output routing on ARP. Go to: -
Menu >> MIDI Output Options = ALL? But you say it's working with the DAW so it should be ok. I'm not familiar with the Blackbox setup but I cannot see anything about specific MIDI Routing (per port) in the Manual. One thing I did notice... do you have the Global MIDI Channel set to the same channel you are trying to capture from ARP? The manual states: - "Any pad level MIDI assignments will always take precedence over the GlobalMIDI assignment. This means that when you have a pad mapped to a MIDI channel, that MIDI channel will no longer trigger pads and sequences... If you have the GlobalMIDI parameter set to Omni, the pad and sequence triggers will happen on any channel that is not mapped to a specific pad." I don't know if that's relevant? The only other thing I can thing of is a power supply issue. When running ARP off the Blackbox, You'll need a power supply that can provide 2Amps at 5V. Powering the Blackbox from a PC/Mac might not be enough. I doubt this would be the issue though because you are seeing some MIDI from ARP. Let me know if any of these suggestions help at all.
