Is anybody using their Arp in conjunction with a Retrokits RK-008? I’m thinking it would be nice to have a simple, non-conditional (unconditional?) midi sequencer/brain to use alongside the Arp. For recording/playing back un quantized lines and simple stuff like basslines, etc, that don’t always require the options and complexity available on the Arp. Or any other parts that I’d rather record in real-time rather than program in the Arp. In this configuration, I’d prolly use the RK-008 as the master midi brain, and it would feed chords to the Arp to work its Arp magic, as well as directly to other instruments for non-arp duty. The dual midi outs on the RK008 would probably be handy in this scenario.
Anyhow, I’m wondering if anybody has used an RK-008 in this kind of setup and if it works well. Or if anybody has done a similar setup with another midi recorder/sequencer. Thanks in advance!
While I've not personally paired an RK-008 with ARP, I see no problem in doing what you're suggesting. Record some ARP chords into RK-008, play those chords back into ARP and record 4 tracks of outputted sequences into the RK-008. I've done this kind of thing many times in software and also paired ARP with Hardware MIDI Loopers such as the Bastl.
Just make sure to sync the tempo by setting the RK-008 clock source to MIDI IN (ARP) or setting ARP to MIDI Control Mode IN (if using the RK-008 as the master device). A lot of fun to be had.
