Create multitrack synth patterns in the LXR-02. Demo and tutorial

Last time we looked at programming synth sounds on the LXR. This time we take a synth-heavy custom kit of four synth sounds and two drum sounds and team it up with the Midicake Arp. The Arp plays the four synth channels. Later we feed all four synths tracks into the LXR in one pass over 64 steps. While the Midicake is ideal for this you could use any sequencer or arp that can satisfy a few basic requirements: It needs to be able to send note information on different MIDI channels and be able to act as the Midi clock master - pretty basic powers. One tiny caution if you're going to use a Keystep-37: When you press the stop button for the arp or sequencer it sends a value "0" on Midi CC51 - which also happens to be the Midi command on the LXR for amp envelope decay on voice 1. Feeding pattern data into the LXR is a good idea imo given how many options there are on the Midicake. One of the strengths of the Midicake is that it constantly saves its state as you work so there's no need to ever actively save anything. The downside is that there's no saved version to revert to in case you wander off on some promising but ultimately unsuccessful adventure. The lesson is to copy your patch to a new slot as you go. Same holds for the LXR - I've lost many interesting sounds in furious twiddles or too-confident "save kit" actions that turned out to be "load kit" instead. Stay organized. For my honoured Patreon friends the LXR kit used here is available for download. The synth sounds on the LXR are really starting to grow on me. They're pretty harsh and digital but respond well to effects. They're also not like your standard synth sounds so you tend to end up in odd places. It makes a good partner for the Midicake. Another obvious partner-candidate would be the Roland 4D. Not a fan of the superb blandness of Roland sounds but spec-wise it seems like a perfect fit. I only have one criticism of the Midicake Arp: They're now made in black and I've got a white one :/ As usual there is absolutely no extra effects, EQ, compression or alteration of the sound other than what you see. 0:00 Example arp 2:20 Drum pattern 2:45 Each synth sound 4:04 Midicake tracks demo 6:50 How to input data 10:02 LXR playback Lots of downloads for supporters on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/richarddehove Many thanks to my kind patrons who keep this channel ad-free My website: https://richarddehove.com/ My other channel "IntraCosmos" of long-play dark ambient textures: https://www.youtube.com/@intracosmos

Please support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jayhosking A live, semi-improvised synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware. Important note: Midicake sent me over the ARP for free. I rarely get free gear, though I'm very grateful when it happens. There was no expectation for me to put it in a video, and no request from Midicake other than to share my thoughts with them. That said, I really enjoyed using it and I'll be keeping it around, as it strikes a nice balance between the "plug-and-pretty" of the NDLR and the "depth and detail" of a traditional sequencer. I've still got plenty to explore with it. Thanks, Chris! I started with the ARP, because I wanted to see what it could do. I didn't want to overload the table at first, so I took out the Minifreak, which has voices to spare. Very quickly I was creating arpeggios and sequencing lines I really liked, and easily able to customize the lines to what I was looking for, from rhythms to polymetrics to inversions etc. I started with just standard major and minor chords, but it was extremely easy to customize the chords on the eight chord buttons once I wanted some 7ths and 6ths. And to have a chord sequencer built in was extremely helpful, as it reduced the amount of gear I needed on the table. Once I had the bones of the song structure, I filled out some more parts, with Erebus on bass and the TR-06 on drums. Finally, I felt it needed something a little gnarlier around the interlude, and luckily I'd just picked up the awesome 303 clone from Cyclone Analogic. Once that was in place, it was just a matter of shaping the song through performance parameters. The final result is pretty cool, and adds some tones, timbres, and textures I haven't been getting as much these days. Thanks for listening. Midicake ARP - most sequencing (i.e. for Minifreak and Erebus) Arturia Minifreak - three synth lines Dreadbox Erebus - bass synth Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TT-303 - acid bass (using its own sequence) Meris LVX - drive and delay for TT-303 Kenton MIDI Thru - MIDI splitter/thru box https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com

5 ways the ARP from MIDICAKE can help trigger better song ideas

5 ways the ARP from  @midicakemidi  can help trigger new song ideas The ARP from MIDICAKE is not what I explected. It's not a simple quad arpeggiator box that adds apeggios to your arpless synths. NO! It's a real time dynamic sequencer hidden under the hood of very flexible quad ARP. It can play it to be a whole song, you can use it to create parts of a song or simply get lost in the complex arp/sequences it creates. In this video, I show 5 ways the MIDICAKE ARP can be a great song trigger. ► 1 on 1 consultation (online): If you're looking for help and need a 1 on 1 consultation, look at my Facebook page to schedule one : https://www.facebook.com/nutrixmtl/services/?ref=page_internal ♫Nu-Trix Music: Nu-trix on iTunes: https://apple.co/3NflMN2 Nu-Trix on spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/7LXHQRKP0RhvxBKDeerlQe ►Follow me online: https://www.nu-trix.com https://www.facebook.com/nutrixmtl https://www.instagram.com/nutrixsynthguy/ https://www.twitter.com/nutrixmtl ►PATREON : https://www.patreon.com/nutrix ❤️ Thanks to all my PATREON supporters❤️ **Thanks MobileMusicPro for being a patron : check out his YT channel : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBm07yyAZhTTfg18pJk-FuQ **Thanks Bleass apps for being a patron : check out their wonderful apps: https://www.bleass.com/ ★FREE GIFTS★ https://www.nu-trix.com/free-circuit-sound-pack-and-sample-pack/ -49 Percussive samples from my BassStation II, Volca Beats and iPad apps -A Nu-Trix Novation Circuit PACK -64 percussive native Circuit Patches -64 samples TimeStamps 00:00 Introduction 02:53 #1 Fixed step arp 05:56 #2 Arp Modulation 09:08 #3 ARP Playback modes 10:52 #4 ARP Follow mode 12:50 #5 ARP Layer mode 15:33 I like it so much, I'll do other videos about it

USING the Cobalts arp along with the ARP's ARPS~~ This is an unboxing of one of the COOLEST things I've ever been sent. It is an amazing 4 track Aprpeggiator Unit. It's made so well. Not plastic but a nice metal chasis. It comes from the folks at a company called Midicake in England. They have been conceptualizing this machine for 10 years and already have done a firmware and hardware update to improve what was already and amazing product. I hope you join me in this series of learning and producing music with this incredible new "instrument" . It is so much MORE than a midi controller~~ I still consider myself a synth newbie because I know how to play them and do very basic things but programming and understanding all the terms makes my head spin. However I will NEVER stop trying to learn and that's what I think this machine will help me with . There is a lot to learn but it is so much fun and very rewarding with all the lights and buttons . I hope you come on this journey with me. I am going to make more videos as I discover more and more things about this machine. I hope to eventually use this device along with my other synths and be able to make actual jams and music with it. Here is the YouTube link for their videos which they add too all the time https://youtube.com/@midicakemidi Here is their website for more info: https://www.midicake.com/ I hope you enjoy the video If you like my music and videos please like subscribe, share and comment. It is very much appreciated Also I have started to add music to my Spotify account so if you can please head over there and put me on some of your playlists. My 3 albums of NA flute music can be very relaxing!! but I have some new ambient tracks I'm uploading which include tongue drum , synths guitars and the like! Take a BITE of the midicake ARP

Generative and evolving or well controlled and precise - it's your choice. A clever concept - tracks are built with lots of lines playing a variation on the same chord.. .arps, bass, pads.. This takes that idea and gives you plenty of scope for experimentation. Keep it tightly controlled for Trancey arp interactions, or let it loose to discover ever evolving pattens. https://patreon.com/starskycarr https://www.starskycarr.com Affiliate Links: Perfect Circuit https://www.pjtra.com/t/SENKTExLTUtDSEpJR0ZGQ0hJTUZHTA Thomann https://thmn.to/thocf/xpnsixr8gp Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/shop/starskycarr Reverb https://reverb.grsm.io/6mtwzga2a4ys Other places you’ll find me: ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/starskycarr ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/starskycarr ► Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/starskycarr ► Bandcamp https://starskycarr.bandcamp.com/releases ► Clubbing TV From the Studio: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYIYEC4M53KQs4FeYpCY51sHxoK2l2Z0O 0:00 Fancy some cake? 0:51 Demo #1 Hands in The Air 1:35 The Ingredients 2:23 Ambient Track Breakdown 2:56 Arp Pad & Chord Mode 3:39 Semi Random Patterns 5:22 Demo #2 Ambient & Glitchy 5:40 Main Parameters 7:37 Rhythm and Groove 8:34 FX and Modulation 9:35 Playing and tweaking it live 10:31 The knobs at the top are for Macros 11:58 Chaining Bars 13:33 Its a sort of sequencer 15:50 Use Bounce PROPERLY!! 17:17 All-in-all? thoughts 19:11 More of that Ambient track again 21:17 Ibiza & Miami need some cake #midicakearp #midicake #demo #review
