Hi.
Arp is working great with my volca. Now I would like to use synth mode with the Mood 2, as described in their guide : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvcEB_UdaVM
Not have much experience with pedals, I didn't realize they use a different midi type - B to their 1/4 midi input. Also they warn that the midi output must be grounded.
Is the Arp midi out grounded ?
If so I could connect directly with something like this https://www.disasterareadesigns.com/shop/p/5p-cba-midi-cable
Otherwise I need to use something like their midi box:
https://www.chasebliss.com/shoputility/p/midibox
If that's the case, I'm still not sure If I would need to use an additional midi type A to type B conversion between the Arp and the midi box. The only type A to type B converts I've found so far are
small: https://www.amazon.com/PolarNoise-Midi-adapter-3-5mm-Cable/dp/B099PK5J6K
It would be nice to have a 5 pin to 5 pin converter to avoid the extra adapters.
Cheers.
Hi Tod, Is the Arp midi out grounded? - Yes. Using a DIN to 1/4" TRS cable like the one you highlighted should work. You need to be certain it is the correct "Ring Active" type used for Chase Bliss gear. If you don't mind soldering, you could make your own.
Connect Pin 5 of the DIN to the Ring of the TRS
Pin 2 to the Shield.
Leave all other Pins and the Tip disconnected
(Don't sue me if it doesn't work, but that's what I'd do) :)
This is helpful resource regarding MIDI Jack connectors: https://www.morningstar.io/post/all-you-need-to-know-about-trs-midi-connections
The Midibox option is guaranteed to work and saves buying specific cables, but it only makes sense if you have more than one Chase Bliss pedal. You will not need a Type A to B adapter. I hope that helps.
