Keyboard split - dry thru option

I may be missing something, but when using key split I cannot find a way to allow "thru" the input notes from in the filtered out region of the keyboard.

When using key split, it would be nice to allow thru for the input notes aren't in the active arpeggiator region (high or low). Perhaps it could be a new option under Midi Thru for "On (in key split)"?

Yes, normally I keep MIDI Thru OFF to play ARP, although I can see why Thru ON has it's uses

Specifically I would like to use keyboard split to play ARP on one side and normal non-arpeggiated notes on the other. For example playing bass notes with my left hand under an arpeggio on my right, or playing a melody with my right hand over a lower arp/sequence.

Currently this can only be done by handling all the key splitting and note filtering externally outside ARP. It looks like this might be implemented in ARP as an additional "split" MIDI Thru mode where the filtered notes (the ones not contributing to the ARP chord notes) are allowed through unchanged.

I can see how this feature would be useful.

Let me take a look at how it could best be implemented and I'll come back with a proposal and an idea of how soon it could be realised.

Having looked into this in a bit more detail, it's clear there are now 4 options for MIDI Thru: - - OFF - ON - ON (Left of Keyboard Split) - ON (Right of Keyboard Split) Implementing the logic is straightforward, but the configuration isn't I'm in 2 minds as to which of the following ways to implement the configuration. 1) Extend the current "MIDI Thru" menu settings to add the 2 new options. This makes toggling MIDI Thru more difficult. 2) Add a new "Keyboard Split MIDI Thru" menu setting. (Both, Left Only, Right Only). This makes it more difficult to configure MIDI Thru (2 options that need to be configured together). Option 2 is my preferred choice as it keeps things clean and you're not going to set it up that often. Whereas, toggling MIDI Thru is a common event. Let me know your thoughts and I'll plan this in for a future firmware update.

Both options definitely seem workable to me. Agreed that #2 feels a bit cleaner. Thank you for looking at this!

On a side note -- I do wonder if the current Key Split behavior is actually intentional... The manual's description for the behavior of Key Split is exactly what I'm trying to do. The manual says: "This setting lets you specify the MIDI Note, above or below which keyboard notes will be ignored for note sync and live play but will pass through to your sound generating device. This enables you to “split” an external MIDI keyboard such that one hand can set the chord for ARP and the other hand can, for example, play a melody or bassline that does not affect ARP’s MIDI Input notes."

Currently if I turn key split on it does not pass through the notes that are ignored for note sync and live play. This may be a bug? This is the current behavior when Midi Thru is OFF. If I turn Midi Thru ON now it passes all notes through including those being used for note sync and live play.

The ARP is designed to pass through all MIDI notes from your keyboard when MIDI Thru is enabled - this includes notes from both sides of any keyboard split you've set up.

I've just tested this with the V8 firmware and can confirm that all notes are passing through correctly.

Could you clarify what you're trying to achieve? Are you looking to prevent certain notes from passing through - specifically those within your active split region?
