In my current setup I have multiple midi controllers such as ARP, NDLR, Keystep, etc... I use a Midi Solutions Quadra Merge to combine their midi outs. The MSQM is multivoltage midi powered and all of my other midi controllers are capable of powering the device except my ARPs both 1.4 and 1.5 versions. Any insights as to why this may be the case. BTW I have tested them using the same USB cable in the same USB power outlets to negate those variables.

The Devices are powered plugged into a mains powerbar which has USB 5V power outlets.

MIDI Solutions MultiVoltage products are compatible with both the original 5V and new 3.3V MIDI specifications.

PROBLEM SOLVED. I was sold an older unit that only works with 5V and is not compatible with the newer 3.3v standard. The newer units have the word multivoltage written on them. Live and Learn. I may be able to work around it by powering it with a synth sending 5V over midi and configuring the synth so it is not sending any midi signal out, or sending on an unused channel, thus effectively only delivering power over midi.

Hi, Yes, ah, that is annoying. It says in their FAQ that they are working on the multivoltage version, that must be out of date now.

The one thing they state is that some devices don't connect ground on the center pin. However, ARP does so there should be no problem with the multivoltage device.

I was just thinking on the issue, before I read you latest comments, that you could MIDI Thru a device that does supply 5v power. It's not ideal but it is a workaround.

We live and learn. I'm intrigued to know how the merger has enough juice to output 4 concurrent MIDI signals from a low current, 3.3v supply. I shall investigate. Cheers.
